This is the second time the dockers are participating in the qualifiers

The 2023 Basketball Africa League (BAL) qualifiers have been projected to begin tentatively on 6 September with 48 teams expected to compete in the group Phase.

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men's league champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) are set to make a return to the qualifiers, after their debut in the inaugural season.

Under the tutelage of Sammy Kiki, the dockers are looking to become the first Kenyan side to make it to the main competition after they faltered in their first attempt and Ulinzi Warriors failed to go past the qualifying stage in the second edition.

The group phase is scheduled for between 6 September and 30 October 2022 with registration expected to have concluded on 22 July.

After registration, the teams are to be divided into groups of up to six teams making eight groups. In each group, teams will play in a one-way tournament.

At the conclusion of the group tournaments, the top two ranked teams in each group will qualify for the Qualifying Tournaments. The model was, however, subject to change depending on the final number of teams registered.

In the Qualifying Tournaments otherwise referred to as the Elite 16, teams from the group qualifiers will take part. The tentative dates for this stage are 22 November to 4 December..

The 16 teams are divided into two Tournaments of eight teams each. The eight teams are then divided into two pools of four teams each.

In each pool, the matches will be played in a one-way tournament. Then the first two teams at the end of the pool matches will play the semi-finals and the inal and the third - fourth place match to determine the three teams that will qualify for the B.A.L.

Each tournament produces the threw teams that join six other sides that have gained direct entry to the BAL proper.

Last year, Warriors fell at the Qualifying Tournaments phase, finishing last in their group in the tournament held in South Africa. KPA fell at the same stage in the inaugural season.
